The art of casting metal goes way back into the past; thousands of years ago the classical world discovered the essence of the art of casting, to create the branch that came to be called artistic casting, that is, work intended, then as now, to reproduce decorative plastic forms in metal.

Although an ancient, little-known art, it is able to reproduce wonderfully elegant forms with amazing plasticity.

The Perali Foundry of today has been able to revive this ancient art in order to create highly prestigious decorative objects. While these are made according to the methods of the past using metals such as aluminium, bronze and brass, new process technologies and thorough knowledge of the materials now make it possible to perfect the sand-cast product.

Pure lines and classic forms are the distinguishing features of the entire line of artistic castings by Perali.

MOULDING DEPARTMENT

The Perali Foundry is organised for making single pieces as prototypes, small series of items and large quantities.

Starting with a sketch, a technical drawing or an existing sample, the first pattern for producing the initial samples is created.

In the hand-moulding department sand-moulds for casting sample pieces are made so that the customer can test them and check their dimensions.
After the preliminary stage and any resulting changes, the type of equipment is chosen. The choice depends on the number of pieces to be made; patterns are made in materials such as resin, aluminium or resin-bonded beech so that they will last as long as possible.

The production department at the Perali Foundry comprises two flexible semi-automatic systems where the majority of production takes place, and there is also a hand-production department for making both prototypes and pieces in various sizes and quantities with the help of a large moulding machine.

There is a “sand preparation” plant run by an operator who keeps constant control of the properties of the moulding sand in order to optimise permeability, cohesion and humidity measurements so that the piece will have a very smooth surface and a pleasing appearance while at the same time the casting operation will be as easy as possible, giving a homogeneous, compact result.

For the interior spaces of the castings sand cores are used, made using either the cold ashland process or the hot shell moulding method; these products are made by external suppliers that specialize in this type of production.

FURNACE DEPARTMENT

The Perali Foundry has four casting furnaces of different capacities to enable flexible production.

The metal bath is constantly controlled by the furnace operatives, keeping the temperature constant (with surface protection to prevent possible oxidation) and monitoring quality with vacuum test specimens.
Degassing and refining treatments improve the mechanical properties of the cast.

The Perali Foundry uses many different materials, according to the customer's needs, and they are always of top, certified quality. The “pigs” are produced only and exclusively by first-casting refineries where market standards must be complied with.

DEBURRING DEPARTMENT / DISPATCH

After the casting has been made the pieces are finished off in the deburring department where they are cleaned, the sprue and riser are removed, they are carefully deburred using sand belts of differing grain size distributions and blasted with steel shots to create a homogeneous appearance.

If heat treatments or machining are required we are able to call upon outside companies specialising in these processes.

The castings are now ready for packing into boxes or pallets, depending on the size and overall volume so that they are ready for delivery.

The Perali Foundry delivers its most of products directly when customers are nearby, others are collected by the customer or sent via a carrier.
We always work closely with the customer to speed up delivery, respect the delivery times given in the order and optimise our service.
